The Ressence Type 1 Slim X

It’s been a decade since Ressence unveiled their utterly fascinating method of indicating time. In celebration of the anniversary, the company have created a new series, Collection X and its first piece is the limited edition Ressence Type 1 Slim X.

If you are an enthusiast of ingenuity and originality then you will love what Ressence do. Along with URWERK and HYT, the brand challenge traditional methods of time indication. And, while a watch dial on which the numerals are static and well behaved, will never go out of style, the timepieces created by this dynamic trio of Independent Watchmaking companies have the ability to thrill you and draw you in like a moth fluttering towards a revolving flame.

The Ressence Type 1 Slim X has the same broad flat façade, trim lugs and crownless arrangement of the Type 1 Slim and is therefore highly wearable. The piece also incorporates the unique ROCS display (the Ressence Orbital Convex System) which comprises of convex-formed discs upon satellite gearing, which means that everything on the dial is in constant revolution. Using an air-filled concept, Type 1 Slim models do lack some of the in-your-face illusion of the Ressence oil-filled displays, but they are nonetheless totally mesmerising.

Aside from its compelling indications, what makes the Type 1 Slim X a standout piece is the unusual finish on its dial, and its deep green olive tone, which is enhanced with yellow accents. The minutes satellite and the hour satellite each have the duality of contrasting matte and circular brushed finishing, which splits them precisely down their middles vertically. Thus, uniformity is only achieved twice per day (at noon and midnight) when the two halves of each satellite meet. While it is a subtle inclusion, it is also ingenious but then, of Ressence, one would expect nothing less.

The “X” in this new collection refers, as you may have guessed to the decade of watchmaking adventures which Ressence have achieve so far. But, they have also topped and tailed the X to create a new logo for the collection which recalls an hour glass. Taking the place of the numeral at 10 o’clock this novelty adds further uniqueness to the dial.

An engraving on the solid caseback of the Type 1 Slim X announces the exclusivity of each model in this 40 piece edition, and here you will also find the retractable key mechanism for setting and winding the piece.
