SIHH 2018 Notebook: MB&F Sarpaneva MoonMachine 2
Monday, January 15th 2018, and the doors of the Palexpo exhibition centre in Geneva are open for business, and the first cornerstone event of the year in the world of horology. Yes folks, it's SIHH 2018, and with no fewer than thirty-five brands exhibiting their latest novelties in this increasingly important showcase, surprises await around every corner!
Already we've seen watches which we will just have to come back to in the weeks after the show, so fear not if details are scant on this bulletin, but let's just feast our eyes on some of the highlights which we'll be seeing in the metal later this week.
MB&F Stepan Sarpaneva MoonMachine 2
Ever beloved by fans of the independent sector, MB&F are undoubtedly the coolest gang in Watchtown, and have just revealed their latest collaboration. This time the 'F' is Stepan Sarpaneva who returns to the fold once again, bringing with him his unmistakable eerie moon face in the MoonMachine 2, based on the HM8 Can-Am beast, and using a prism to project the moon in between the digital hours and minutes in a front-viewed, head-up display.
Just like in the HM8, the case is themed on the rear section of the five litre Can-Am racers with its 'engine' laid out behind the display, and beneath the 'roll bars' and flat sapphire crystal cover, with Mr Sarpaneva's iconic moon face embedded in the rotor based on his Korona dials.
As ever, it's exceptionally well manufactured, brimming with unique detail throughout, and with its outlandish design and imposing personality, an unforgettable piece of horological art. The MB&F MoonMachine 2 will be produced in two titanium versions, as well as one in rose gold too.
We will be back to look at this one in closer detail for sure.
