In the run-up to SIHH 2018 details of the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time models have just been announced.
The Overseas collection is characterised by its sporty, contemporary characteristics and has been widely acclaimed as a superb “everyday” watch for those with a penchant for global travel.
First released in 1998, each Overseas model, like everything in Vacheron Constantin’s portfolio has been quality approved by the Hallmark of Geneva for its aesthetics and its mechanics.
In 2016 Vacheron Constantin gave the entire collection a comprehensive overhaul, and stole a march on many of their competitors by introducing an ingenious interchangeability device which enables the wearer to easily change the straps and bracelet of their watch.
The ability to give the piece an entirely new appearance in an instant not only dispels with the need to take more than one wristwatch while travelling. The potential for “personalisation” by switching from strap to bracelet and back again, also appeals to Millennial watch-buyers, a highly lucrative sector of the market.
Despite the wealth of technology which surrounds us when we travel, there is still something comforting in the simple act of viewing what time it is back home, at a glance. The Overseas models display not only home time and local time, there is also a day/night indication and a pointer-style date indication - perfect for those long haul fuzzy-headed jet lagged moments.
Reading and adjustment of the various indications couldn't be simpler. The baton-shaped central hand indicates local time while the arrow-tipped central hand shows your home time. At 9 o’clock the AM/PM tells you if it is day or night at home, while a decent sized pointer date takes up position at 6 o’clock.
To adjust local and home times, pull out the crown at 3 o’clock which has two positions depending on which time you need to change, via the jumping hour mechanism. The date can be adjusted using the screw-lock crown at the 4 o’clock location.
The new Overseas Dual Time models will be available with 41mm stainless steel cases paired with either blue or silver-toned dials or with a 41mm 18K pink gold case, which features a silver-toned dial. The hour markers and the hands have been crafted from 18K polished gold, while each dial has been given a subtle sunburst finish.
All of the new models will come with three quick-release interchangeable straps in rubber, leather and metal, and each piece is powered by the self winding manufacture Calibre 5110 DT, which has the added luxury of an 18K gold rotor adorned with a Wind Rose - historically symbolic with generations of travellers.
