Cartier Rotunde de Cartier Second Time Zone Day Night

Cartier Rotunde de Cartier Second Time Zone Day Night

Cartier add a new piece to their acclaimed portfolio of watches, the Cartier Rotunde de Cartier Second Time Zone Day Night model.

There is no such thing as a "busy dial" in Cartier's Rotunde collection, and despite its abundance of indications, this new model manages to maintain equipoise and elegance.  At a first glance you would be forgiven for thinking that the "second time zone" in the title was perhaps a misprint.  However look closer and you will see that Cartier have included this highly useful feature using a superb litttle retrograde which arcs from 1 to 12 on the upper left of the dial.  Elsewhere there is a day/night indication at 4 o'clock, a small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock and a rather imposing date window located at the 12.  Some of the distinctive Roman numerals get nibbled up by the indications which are laid on top of them, but otherwise this handsome dial displays its wealth of information with aplomb.

On the dial a compendium of guilloché techniques promise to catch and play with the light and they add a finespun character to this very masculine wristwatch.  Traditional Breguet-style hands indicate the hours and minutes, while the second time zone indication and the small seconds feature  little no-nonsense pencil-shaped forms.  Resetting of the second time zone can be done with just a push on the pert little cabochon-set crown, which will advance the mechanism in one hour increments.  Inside Cartier's in-house self-winding calibre 1904-FU MC keeps time, the "FU" actually means "fuseaux" which translates as "time zone".
