It Curves, It Bends, It Bulges ... The Rebellion T-1000 Gotham.
Rebellion Timepieces are youthful, feisty and they love a challenge. Eric Giroud is a man who is unafraid to make the seemingly impossible musings of watchmakers become a reality. Naturally, when Rebellion meets Giroud the end product will be marvelous - together they create fantastic stuff.
The T-1000 is remarkable. So-named because of its ability to create 1000 hours of power reserve. The mechanism which requires six mainspring barrels is fed via two finely-tuned chains and is engineered to distribute the power in series (2x3), thus ensuring accuracy. An enlarged winding lever means that the ceremonial pleasure of winding the thing will feel different, is different, allowing for 10 times more force than with other (ordinary) watches. Time is indicated via the use of vertical “roller-borne” indications and a double hairspring inclined at 39° at 6 o’clock increases precision.
1000 hours eh? Perhaps you think that's just a bit surplus to requirements? It matters not - the idea for this particular piece of micro-mechanics came about in the best possible atmosphere - the aftermath of the 2008 Le Mans 24 Hour race and in the excitement, and caffeine-induced euphoria of having witnessed a grid full of highly-tuned racing cars being pushed to the limits of their endurance , a horological gauntlet was thrown – how long can the power reserve of a watch be engineered to be? An entirely appropriate conception for the T-1000 considering that Rebellion Timepieces and Rebellion Racing ( the Swiss-based endurance racing team) are intrinsically linked.
For the T-1000 Gotham edition, the substantial case is made from titanium or black DLC-coated titanium with an aluminium "chassis". It curves, it bends and it bulges, as if sculpted by a wind tunnel and its open-dialed panorama is spectacular.
Rebellion describe the T-1000 Gotham as a "new super-hero of a whole new kind" one which is "dedicated to fighting .... time" - horological drama? you bet it is. And I love it.
The Rebellion T-1000 Gotham will be limited to 25 pieces, specs at the Rebellion site here.
