New Edition Eterna Royal KonTiki Two Time Zones
New edition, new calibre and looking rather fabulous to boot - the new Eterna Royal KonTiki Two Time Zones watch.
Inside is the Eterna Calibre 3945A, part of the brand's proprietary calibre 39 family, appearing in its first version for this piece. I say first because this movement will be capable of 88 variations. Simplification is the key to its versatility - modules which can be easily added or removed and remarkably, "three screws are enough to attach or remove any and all of the auxiliary modules". This is a development which has been achieved with the future in mind and is one which includes an improved Sphero-drive device - of pivotal importance to Eterna since its invention in 1948, so much so that the five dots in the brand's logo replicate the five steel balls in the original low friction rotor system.
No doubt KonTiki fans will find much to enjoy in this new model for it is indeed a handsome watch. There is a little added robustness thanks to 5 PVD-coated screws on the bezel and a PVD crown guard, but this is balanced by the elegance of some contrasting satin and polished finishing. On the black dial the indications and markers are neatly arranged with a pointer-style 24 hour ring for the second time zone function.
The steel case which measures 42mm across is marginally 1970's, with just the right amount of squared-off overspill, and despite the PVD elements and its black rubber strap it manages to remain superbly stylish.
