Omega's Sporting Week - The America's Cup and the Lausanne Olympic Countdown Clock
And so concludes another busy week for Omega watches with two very different showcase unveilings.
Firstly something rather unique - the "Countdown Clock" on the Place de la Navigation in Lausanne, designed to pay tribute to the Olympic spirit of the canton of Vaud and the city of Lausanne and which was inaugurated on Monday last.
Several blocks of Jura limestone are used in its construction each engraved by craftsmen, to illustrate the various Olympic sports. It stands 4 metres tall and weighs 20 tons, so will be an enduring feature for generations to come, particularly since the engravings can be modified if required.
Next, to San Francisco where Omega celebrated their continued partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand for the 34th America's Cup with the new Seamaster Diver ETNZ.
It looks good, and it's functional too - 44mm steel case with matt ceramic bezel and a superb compendium of red/white/black indications.
The red-ringed counter at 3 0'clock is a 30-minute regatta timer with five minute countdown, at 9 o'clock is a small seconds dial and the 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock incorporates a neat little date aperture. The piece is water resistant to 300m with an "anti-bends" helium escape valve on the caseside at 10 o'clock. Inside is the Omega co-axial calibre 3330. The piece will be limited to 2013 pieces.
