Practical and sophisticated with clearly defined functions, two day and night displays for home and away time, and independently adjustable time zone settings, can the Toric Hémisphères Rétrograde by Parmigiani Fleurier take off with the award?
Although the Toric was the first watch to be designed by founder Michel Parmigiani back in 1995, this is the first time their proprietary, in-house, second time zone movement has been seen in the collection, which is defined by its knurled bezel upon a polished pink gold case. It is elegant and beautifully finished, and among the six preselected finalists in the GPHG 2017 Travel Time category the styling is traditional and reserved.
It displays the local time via the principal central indicators, while the second time zone, including the minutes so that even irregular zones, which are offset by a half or quarter hour, can be adjusted and set via its own dedicated crown, for the mini dial in the upper part of the face. There are also two twenty-four hour day and night panels for each location, and a red crescent pointer indicates the date against a calendar which arcs around the dial from the 2 to the 10, in a retrograde spring back action.
I could imagine the Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Hémisphères Rétrograde being the subject of hot debate among the jury panel, and I would have it as one of my favourites, but there is much to choose from, with a diverse collection of styles and functionality among its fellow contenders.

No. The Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Hémisphères Rétrograde is a very lovely, practical and technically accomplished piece, but I think that the night will belong to another.
