The Results of GPHG 2013 and ...... A Lange & Söhne Do The Double!
The Horological equivalent of the Oscars, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) took place tonight at the sumptuous Grand Théâtre de Genève. This year, the event which is now in its 13th edition is being heralded as a competition whose jury has included watch enthusiasts from a variety of backgrounds, including historians, collectors, publishers, watchmakers and designers – Bravo! … and for the first time, the inclusion of a representative of new media, Hodinkee's Ben Clymer – Hoopla! – proof that a Haute Horlogerie competition should be judged by those who are passionate about watches, and not simply dusty old retailers. There have been tweaks made to the categories too – a new "Horological Revelation" prize, to recognise achievements by a watch brand which has been in the industry for less than 5 years, and the "Revival" prize, for the best contemporary reinterpretation of an iconic model.
