Romain Jerome and Mo Coppoletta - RJ Tattoo DNA - Davy Jones Locker and a Bottle o' Rum
Shiver my timbers! When it comes to adding a bit of theatre to your watch collections, few if any do it better than - and certainly none do it the same as- Romain Jerome. And once again the new Romain Jerome RJ Tattoo DNA collection does not disappoint in that department.
Accompanied by a wonderful brooding animation to coincide with the release, the latest Romain Jerome collection to emerge in the now familiar - but never expected - DNA series this time draws it's essence from the silent murky world at the bottom of the seven seas where many a poor sailor came to his final rest and where myths, mermaids, monsters and legends protect sunken treasures.
To illustrate the Sailors Grave theme of the new collection, Romain Jerome enlisted the artistic talents of collaborator and serious watch collector, the world-renowned tattoo artist Mo Coppoletta, and so the resulting Romain Jerome RJ Tattoo DNA is bedecked with a multi layered dial depicting in true tattoo storytelling style, the unfolding dramatic scene of tumultuous seas, stormy skies and a doomed galleon's last moments as she slips beneath the waves. Fore to the gloomy dial is a large silver anchor and it is flanked on either side with forked lightning bolts which become luminous after dark.
Clad in structured steel with full body PVD coating the RJ Tattoo DNA comes on a black fabric strap, but my own initial preference is offered with a partial PVD coating and bare steel paws, lugs and crown and is eyecatchingly presented on a skin coloured leather strap, complete with Mo Coppoletta tattoos to set it all off to maximum effect.
In all there will be 100 pieces of the RJ Tattoo DNA collection with 25 pieces in four variants available, and if you dare to walk the plank and take the plunge on this remarkable piece, prices range from chf. 13,750 to chf. 18,450
