Singer Reimagined Track 1

Singer Reimagined Track 1

2017 GPHG Chronograph Category Finalist

They do say if you're going to make an entrance, you should make it one to remember, so with a debut like the Singer Track 1, new high end watch brand Singer Reimagined have lobbed a real curveball among the contenders for the Chronograph category award.

So what have we got?

Essentially we have an exciting new company with a radical new watch powered by a fascinating new movement, which introduces a completely new definition of the chronograph. Although in fairness it was with the Visionnaire Chronograph by Fabergé that we first witnessed this groundbreaking innovation, the Singer Track 1 and its retro-futuristic medley of silvers, black and orange, in a titanium case emphatically took the concept one step further.

The common denominator between them is of course the movement, and it is the work of the brilliant Jean-Marc Wiederrecht and his team at Agenhor Manufacture. Designed in the round, it has a space in its centre into which various complication modules can be fitted, and the ingenious chronograph is the first of these to break cover.

In the Singer Track 1 the chronograph functions are condensed into a central axis configuration, so that the elapsed seconds, minutes and hours are displayed at the centre of the dial as opposed to the familiar subdial array. Meanwhile, to read the time you'll be referencing the hours and minutes via the twin rotating outer rings as they pass under the static orange pointer at the 6.

It's a remarkable watch, and wherever you look the detailing and contrasts are quite superb, and when it appeared earlier this year it became an instant sensation, and almost overnight Singer Reimagined was flaring across the internet.

Of the six pre-selected finalists, none have enjoyed such enduring exposure and critical acclaim, even eclipsing the excitement around the Fabergé, and if it does come down to a scrap between two watches with very similar principals, with its visually arresting style and good looks, for me the Singer Track 1 must be favourite for the Chronograph category award.

The Watch Press prediction:

I think the Singer Track 1 will walk away with this award. It's not just because it's very cool and very clever, but there is some truly ingenious watchmaking innovation at work here. After all the 'H' in GPHG is 'Horologie'.
