The Bremont Solo-37 - It's Not Girly, It's Canny.
Here's a new Bremont timepiece from Messrs. English - the Bremont Solo-37, a slightly scaled down edition of the oh-so-classically styled Pilot's timekeeper, the Solo. Bremont fans may already be aware that the brand's founders have yet to put a wrong foot forward in their watchmaking adventure thus far - and although the Solo-37 may, at first glance appear to provide mere acquiescence to the ladies watch sector, it is in fact yet another perfectly timed and perfectly planned canny move by the brand, one that works on more than one level.
- Of course, this one will look good on girly wrists - the Solo is clean-faced, legible and really quite beautiful. This is a timepiece abound with subtleties, the small-ish applied numerals, the perfectly sized and positioned date window (- so often a dial-wrecker if the proportions are neglected..) and the little roundel on the seconds hand - it may lack the colours of, but is, very "RAF" all the same. Therefore making a down-sized edition of such a classic should naturally grant Bremont a whole new legion of female fans, just in time for Christmas shopping perhaps? - but that's not all. This piece, Bremont's smallest yet is no less technical than the original, and as those clever Bremont Boys have just launched their dapper timepieces in the Asia, the demographic demand for a smaller case size should ensure that the Solo-37 will be prove to be more than popular, and will help to gain a valuable foothold in this very lucrative marketplace.
Bremont and the individuals behind the brand are notable for their refreshing enthusiasm, totally unstuffy attitude to the industry and their unusual brand associations - they found the perfect product placement with their MBI which is only available to individuals who have survived being catapulted from a Martin Baker ejection seat and they are the Watchmaking Kings of recycling - not tacky like some we could mention, but classy - the Bremont Victory watch is made using original parts from HMS Victory and the Bremont P-51 uses original metal from a rather famous 1944 Mustang WWII aircraft. Marketing is a Bremont speciality, look out for the brand's latest ad campaign, the antithesis of those glossy, characterless features we have become accustomed to, and one which will surely - hopefully? inspire other brands to look, learn and do.
I merely skim the surface of this unique watchmaking company - more information at the official Bremont website.
