The Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 XXL Chrono

Girard-Perregaux describe their Vintage 1945 Collection as "timeless" and as one which "is distinguished by its undeniable elegance" - they're not wrong.  Since it's creation, it has become the perfect Art Deco frame for some exquisite dials, including the brand's acclaimed trio of arrow-headed bridges and more recently the jaw-droppingly beautiful craftsmanship of the Le Corbusier Trilogy. It is convex and curvy and those  distinctive lugs, although the epitome of understatement are fully functional wrist hugging devices.

Now there is a new addition, the Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 XXL Chrono with a pair of counters which, compared to the three counter dial editions, look perfectly at home and do not detract from its supreme architecture in the slightest.

As with all good design, it's about symmetry and it's about proportions and Girard-Perregaux have expertise in both disciplines.  The counters are usable, but not dominant and there is still lots of empty dial space to enjoy.  The best features remain - diminutive applied numerals laid neatly, following the outline of a fine railtrack, blued hands and the subtle, but very vintage inclusion of the red "60" and "30" on the counters.

The Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 XXL Chrono measures 37mm x 36mm x 12.7mm, is constructed from 18 carat rose gold and comes presented on a black alligator strap.
