The Hublot LaFerrari MP05 Masterpiece
When Hublot and Ferrari became partners back in November 2011, both companies and their exceptional CEO's had so much to offer to the new business relationship, we wondered - who wooed who?
Since then the merging of the two powerful brands has been tastefully achieved, and is about as subtle as you could imagine would ever be possible. There has been no hasty rash of releases, quite the opposite in fact - and the on-dial branding has been low-key and slightly understated.
That technical off-spring should follow such a dalliance should have been in no doubt and the new Hublot LaFerrari MP05 Masterpiece, with its "engine block inners" is just about as automobile-inspired as you can get, even in this industry.
The technical challenge lies in the achievement of an exceptionally generous power reserve from the manually wound calibre. At present the Rebellion T-1000, one of my favourites, has the longest at 1000 hours, but Hublot's has a tourbillon making it a record-setter in this genre at 960 hours or 40 days - a feat which requires eleven spring barrels all neatly lined up in formation adding function to this highly unusual calibre panorama.
Time is indicated using cylinder-like displays all lume-enhanced for readability. Hours and minutes are to the right, power reserve to the left with the seconds integrating with the tourbillon cage.
The Hublot LaFerrari MP05 Masterpiece will be limited to 50 pieces, details at Hublot.
