The Piaget Jewellery Magic Exhibition - Back-lit, Side-lit And Face-on Glamour.

Piaget are showcasing some rather special gem-set pieces in an exhibition entitled "Jewellery Magic".  The brand are no strangers to reflecting on their illustrious past, rightly so, and this will be the fifth such event to be staged in the Piaget Time Gallery in Geneva.

It will be a most scintillating collection, allowing members of the public to view some unique timepieces each set with an array of precious stones.  Expect back-lit, side-lit and face-on glamour - like this piece, a "Tradition" watch which was previously owned by Elizabeth Taylor and which was acquired by Piaget at auction in 2011.

Made in 1967, it is set with 36 diamonds, has a yellow gold case and bracelet and an exquisite cracked opal dial.  This is an ultra-slim timepiece, powered by the brand's skinnied Calibre 9P - but this exhibition is not about celebrity and the other pieces on display are all decidedly more masculine, comprising of most notably, an ultra-slim white gold pocket watch with a cover entirely set with diamonds, the multi-million pound "Phoebus" watch whose number 12 is replaced by a 3-carat blue diamond and this, an "Ermitage" pocket watch featuring diamonds, rubies and a hand-engraved movement skeletonised to its bare bones.

Alain Borgeaud is the director of Piaget's Heritage which acquires and exhibits these remarkable pieces.  Previously he has been in charge of both the brand's jewellery watch and also it's jewellery sector and must therefore have found himself on familiar territory in staging the Jewellery Magic exhibition and relished the task of bringing this particular collection to the public.
