The Pinion Axis Launches At Salon QP
Nothing represents an industry in recovery quite like new blood, and this week a new British watchmaking company will be launched when the Pinion Watch Company launch their first watch, the Pinion Axis.
The man behind Pinion Watch Company is Piers Barry, a designer and self-confessed watch aficionado and when he lifts the curtain to unveil his Pinion Axis at Salon QP, he can quite literally take all the credit, having designed everything - that includes straps, packaging, supporting materials and photography.
His vision was to create "English designed and assembled timepieces that evoke design simplicity" - so far so good, the initial images suggest a highly readable design, styled to be on the gentlemanly side of robustness with a nod back to classic aviator watch aesthetics. To those of you who have followed the evolution of the "new wave" of British watchmaking these features may very well read likecheck-list of requisites such are the similarities with other recent newcomers, but there is a keenness in the industry for this new niche and as it is developing it is opening its own little "micro-marketplace".
The Pinion Axis measures 42mm across withbrushed steel or black DLC steel coated options. Dial indications have the clean readability characteristic of Pilot's Watches. The Pinion logo continues round the back with a caseback engraving and the automatic ETA movement is sealed to proved 100m of water resistance.
The Pinion Watch Company is located in South Oxfordshire and true to British Watchmaking traditions, all case finishing, assembly and testing will be done in England.
