The Speake-Marin Serpent Calendar Basel 2012

Just unveiled at Basel 2012 is the Speake-Marin Serpent Calendar, a re-designed piece containing a new automatic calibre, and just like his covetable Spirit Pioneer, it is set to be a bit of a bargain.

Inside the piece is the Calibre Eros 1, another reference to a famous London landmark, which produces a power reserve of five days, using a twin barrel construction.  Finishing is to the usual impeccable standards noteworthy of all Peter Speake-Marin timepieces.  The calibre has been slimmed down so this piece should slip beneath the cuff, resulting in a very wearable piece  but of course, skinnied though it maybe, a Speake-Marin will always be noticed  - is it that Piccadilly case with its proudly produding lugs? the out-size sculpted crown? - perhaps the playful, shapely hands or the ever-present "topping tool" motif? - all are unique features, all are instantly recognisable, all make these timepieces special.

On the white lacquer dial are a combination of numerals - Roman on the outer dial and arabic on the ever-so-slightly recessed pointer date on the inner dial.  Those seductive Speake-Marin hour and minute hands are joined by an equally curvy date hand which is designed to be perspicuous at all times.  Just above 6 o'clock the synonymous "topping tool" is replicated and it also serves as a rotor, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.

The Speake-Marin Serpent Calendar will be available in either 38mm or 42mm case size in either stainless steel or 18 kt red gold editions.
