Zenith Continue Their Re-discovery of "Pilot" Watches with the Zenith Pilot Montre d'Aéronef Type 20 GMT 1903
If you are one of the few who got a bit sniffy about the 57.5mm Type 20 unveiled back in 2012, then perhaps the models which have followed in its wake have atoned for its girth and quirky pocketwatch-calibre proportions. Perhaps you pondered over the fact that Zenith were canny enough to trademark the term "Pilot" so no other watchmaker could use it but who hadn't made a "Pilot" watch since the 1960's? It matters not. The Zenith Pilot Montre d'Aéronef Type 20 GMT 1903 continues Zenith's re-discovery of this watch genre and showcases their ability to make a damn fine "Pilot" watch to boot.
The 48mm case is made from DLC coated titanium. Inside is a Zenith automatic Elite Dual Time Calibre 693 with a power reserve of 50 hours. Particular attention has been given to the dial which has been sand-blasted no less than five times and to the vintage tones on each numeral which promises just a little uniqueness for each model. Its limited production number of 1903 pieces is in reference to the year of the Wright brothers' first flight on Kitty Hawk beach.
The voluptuous red-tipped hand points to a second time zone, the out-size crown - a practical inclusion is both grippy and bounteous and the chunky man-strap adds a final flourish of dapper styling. This is indeed a well turned out Pilot Watch.
