Baume & Mercier Capeland Limited Edition With Copper Dial
This one's set to be a classic. Perhaps Baume & Mercier will be just a little bit rueful that they have assigned their latest Capeland to be strictly limited in numbers and available only for purchase in Tourneau stores.
The Capeland Chronograph is a fine and dapper wristwatch, of that there can be no doubt - admirably elegant, vintage styling, a rounded case, clean dial and a flyback chronograph to boot, operated using fiddle-tastic pushers which promise to poke out from beneath the cuff.
This piece uses a burnished copper-toned dial as a backdrop for its multiple indications - blue for the overlapping tachymeter scale, counters and hands and black for the curly Arabic numerals and telemeter scale. The contrast is superb - never mind the "synthetic" image, this one will look resplendent on the wrist.
The piece is powered by a La Joux-Perret automatic chronograph calibre, which uses column-wheel construction to operate the start, stop and return to zero of the chronograph hand, rather than a banged-on set of cams - added bounty, if it were needed. The 44mm rounded case is made from steel and is topped with domed sapphire.
The Baume & Mercier Capeland with Copper Dial will be a limited edition of 250 pieces.
