The DeWitt Academia Out of Time for Only Watch 2015 features a highly decorative dial, but despite the addition of a star-studded night sky the stellar feature of this watch is still its duo of contrasting seconds indications.
The DeWitt Academia Out of Time dial displays the passing of each second using two very different methods. At 4.30 the "dead-beat” seconds subdial has a hand which ticks once per second with a very precise pause between each. At 7.30 a "flying-time" indication defies convention. It has no hand; instead two overlaid discs provide a compelling spectacle as the little dots at its edge "flit" around the perimeter in constant ebullience. Each spirited whirl takes precisely one second.
Most mechanical watch complications are devised to be entirely functional, and perhaps some practical-minded enthusiasts would consider that this example serves merely to demonstrate watchmaking prowess. But really it is much, much more than simply showing off. What Manufacture DeWitt have created with their Academia Out of Time model is a brilliant and thought-provoking illustration of time - the deceptive illusion of seconds whirring by in an excited pirouette contrasting with a more serious partition of time.
The one-of-a-kind DeWitt Academia Out of Time Only Watch 2015 features a hand-painted scene of mountain tops with a star-studded night sky adding uniqueness. Inside is the self-winding DUW Calibre capable of a power reserve of 65 hours, and the piece comes presented in a 42.5mm rose gold case.
