Halloween-Themed Watch? No Skulls Please, We're Squeamish.
Horrible Horology is alive and well, and when it comes to choosing a "Halloween" themed timepiece there are devilish details, demonic dials and grisly engravings to choose from - but, how about something which captures all of the vamp without any of the gore? We think that the elegance of this Angular Momentum Splendor Sangre fits the bill.
Angular Momentum is a small independent Swiss brand specialising in bespoke creations and owned and operated by master of watchmaking (and unusual materials) Martin Pauli. Each of the watchcases are hand-crafted (manu propria) in the Angular Momentum workshop in Bern so this really is a special pièce unique with it's customer eagerly awaiting delivery. Inside is a historical hand-wind movement, the Calibre Fontainemelon (FHF) 74.
There's nothing ornate or fancy here - but that deep red lacquered dial is so sublimely sanguine and that voluptuous cushion-shaped stay brite steel case is so classy that it would not look out of place if paired with a silky white cuff/red-lined black cape ensemble. The subtle little rounded date window is but a bonus.
And while you're at it, we would strongly recommend a visit to the Manu Propria Facebook page to follow the exploits of the man at work with regular fascinating updates featuring the complex, fully hand crafted processes behind the extraordinary watches, and to get a glimpse into this unusual non-conformist atelier.
