Hublot Red 'n' Black Skeleton Tourbillon for Only Watch 2013
Hublot have for the first time created a brightly coloured ceramic - an eye-piercing Ferrari-esque red hue, which they have chosen to offer up for the Only Watch charity auction which takes place later this year.
Ceramic is a perfect watchmaking material. It's tough and it's scratch-resistant so both case and bezel will retain a showroom finish for longer. Ceramic devised from zirconium dioxide begins its life as a white powder, creating colour requires the addition of pigments - but this is where it gets tricky. The result of adding pigments, usually in the form of other metal oxides is unpredictable to say the least, and no-one has managed to produce anything other than black, white or girly pastels - until now that is.
And it really is a handsome piece. The broad bezel of the Classic Fusion shows off the vibrance to great effect, but it's not the only stellar feature of this Pièce Unique - jostling for supremacy is the in-house tourbillon movement, skeletonised to its bare bones which provides its own panorama, a shadowy labyrinth apart from the striking red aluminium surround for the tourbillon aperture.
The Hublot Red 'n' Black Skeleton Tourbillon will be a one-of-a-kind edition to be auctioned at the Only Watch 2013 event, but following months of research and fastidious development devoted to creating the perfect mèlange, now Hublot have the recipe you can bet that this new-found animation will be bringing a touch of added drama throughout their portfolio in the future.
