The New Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar watch
With an upsized case and a new in-house calibre, the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar watch marks a significant addition to their portfolio.
Created by the late Gerald Genta - a designer of consummate importance to the watch industry, the Royal Oak is a piece which we should file under the category of "essential and influential watches". Its instantly recognisable and unusual profile ensures that aficionados who have a plenitude of models to choose from admit that they automatically reach for their Royal Oak for daily wear, and many novice enthusiasts declare it their "aspirational" model.
This new Perpetual Calendar is available in four editions - stainless steel or rose gold case with a choice of white or blue dial, each featuring the Grande Tapisserie finishing synonymous with the collection. The case has been resized to 41mm an increase of just 2mm yet it is quite enough and the end result is a QP which is perfectly proportioned.
The month and leap year indication is at the 12 o'clock, date is at 3 o'clock, moon phase is on the lower dial at 6 with the day of the week at the 9 o'clock location. A centrally mounted hand serves to indicate the weeks of the year on a 52-week scale at the dial's edge.
Audemars Piguet took a holistic approach to the design of this new model, creating the new in-house Calibre 5134 designed to fit snugly within the enlarged case. As always, meticulous finishing comes as standard.
