URWERK UR-210 FINAL EDITION
Known for its dynamic mechanics and futuristic aesthetics, the Urwerk UR-210 has without doubt, enlivened the watchmaking landscape. And, while the company have announced the retirement of this series, it bows out in suitably dramatic style, with a stealthy ultra-exclusive UR-201 Final Edition.
Carrying a steel and titanium case with matte black DLC coating, and red accents on the indications the Urwerk UR-210 Final Edition is a superb swansong for an astounding collection. You won’t mind that it rests just a shade under 18mm high on your wrist and has a girth which even the most generously cut cuff cannot hide, part of the appeal of the UR-210 is its prominent wrist presence.
The dial of the UR-210 Final Edition has the unique and highly recognisable panorama of hour satellite indications, together with a retrograde minute hand, which is so huge that perhaps one might doubt its ability to fly back to zero in an instant, but it does, thanks to its feather-light construction. As stated, the indications on this model have been enhanced with vivid red, adding further to the thrilling dial-side theatre.
Also featured on the dial, is the company’s unique winding efficiency indicator, which displays the winding efficiency over the last two hours, inactivity by the wearer will send the indicator to red, while more activity will send it towards green.
Evoking a personal link between the wearer and the watch, the wearer can tend to its mechanical needs by setting the selector on the back of the watch to “full” when the rotor has received an insufficient energy supply, and to “reduced” when it has had sufficient supply. This in turn slows the movement of the rotor to avoid wear on the mechanisms. The “stop” setting disables the winding rotor completely, allowing the piece to work on the remaining power reserve or manual winding.
Just a handful of owners will have an opportunity to develop this level of intimacy with a Urwerk UR-210 Final Edition, as the model will be limited to just 7 pieces. As far as the collection goes, even when they are “retired”, monumental watch collections never truly die. Expect to see UR-210 pieces at the world’s major auction houses for years to come.
