Combining a trio of world-firsts, the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Twofold limited edition watch exhibits a dazzling white aesthetic by day and an otherworldly glow after dark.
The Excalibur Collection is known for bringing a sense of drama to the portfolio of Roger Dubuis. Reassuringly extravagant in every way possible, this Excalibur Twofold model has had its horological anatomy laid bare through meticulous skeletonisation and it introduces some not-yet seen materials to the industry.
The 45mm case is constructed from a single piece of Mineral Composite Fibre (MCF). This material, which contains 99.95% silica is made from layering thin sheets of the quartz combined with epoxy resin. During this process, known as Sheet Molding Composite (SMC), the pristine white colour is added, thereby ensuring that it will remain whiter than white throughout its lifetime.
By introducing this new material onto the flange and into the heart of the watch, on the top surface of the double tourbillon and on the Shuriken star-shaped bridge, uniformity is achieved.
Also making its industry debut, Roger Dubuis have used a patented method of illuminating the profile of the upper plate of the calibre, using a process which promises to endure 60% longer than standard luminescence.
On its own this striking dial-side illumination would be well worth turning back your cuff after dark. However, elements on the rubber strap have also been given a sensational neon-like glow using LumiSuperBiwiNova technology, which incorporates luminescent material before the rubber is molded.
